An Interview with the Oh-So-Talented Charli Burrowes aka @MeOhMyGirl
We recently collaborated with the oh-so-talented artist/film maker/photographer Charli Burrowes aka @MeOhMyGirl. Charli was the Creative Director and photographer behind the beautiful images for our Bloom Campaign. We chatted to Charli about her art and inspirations, what it was like to collaborate with the UNE PIECE Team, and what the future holds for Me Oh My.
What is your Life Mantra? “If you're going to try, go all the way.” It's a Charles Bukowski quote. I live by it- give whatever you want in life all you've got.
Who or what inspires you in your life and in your art? My mother, and her strength. Women, and theirs. And all the brave, beautiful brilliant artists who have come before me + somehow made the impossible, possible.
Your art explores themes of femininity and rebellion. If there’s one thing you want people to take away from your work, what would it be? That it is okay to be flawed- your beauty + your strength comes from your brokenness. So don't be embarrassed by moments or parts of you that feel like failings- lean into them. That's usually where our strength also comes from.
Can you tell us why you were excited to work with Carly Brown and the UNE PIECE Team on this project? I just adore Carly + her team. They're really doing something rebellious with the way they're up-ending the industry. Innovative events + sincere community building in a time where the bottom line, algorithms + ROI's have never been more prevalent. I really admire kickass women doing things their own way. Takes a lot of strength + self belief. I respect it immensely.
Can you tell us in your own words what this campaign, “Bloom” means to you? To become your best + most beautiful self. We only bloom later in life, after a whole heap of work + hardship. I think it's a beautiful metaphor for human life. The best parts happen later on.
What can we expect next from Me Oh My Studios and what are you excited for in the future? Hopefully a heap more films, a new exhibition next year + who knows, maybe a feature one day!
What do you think of the UNE PIECE brand and its vision to empower and build confidence in women? I think it's what we all need more of right now - a beautiful antidote to the ordinary. xx
