Mindful Muses: Kat Harding aka @yogakiss

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing you to some of our most Zen-Friends and Mindful Muses to help remind us of what to do in challenging times. First up is one of our #unepiecewomen, Kat Harding aka @yogakiss. Kat is a Yoga and SUP Yoga teacher based in Noosa, Queensland, and is a long-time friend of UNE PIECE. We asked Kat about finding new routines in these challenging times, what moments are bringing her joy, and what she is hopeful for in the future.

I’m a beach baby through and through, who found balance in my corporate job (and now as a mum of a 1 year old) through yoga and movement. I enjoy fresh air, warmth on my skin and enjoying the most simple thing in life – being in nature (mostly in the sea).

In these incredibly challenging times, what is bringing you joy? Spending time doing nothing, and not feeling like I need to be doing anything. Enjoying the quiet, the sounds of the birds in the trees and my little girl’s company.

Are you reading/watching/listening to anything interesting right now? I’ve actually just been opening up my yoga books and re-reading some of the amazing things I’ve learnt from them and my trainings in the past  7 years of teaching.

In particular, a quote that stood out for me recently from The Language of Yin Yoga – “How easy it is to feel we are cut off from all that life offers us and that we are lacking in some way? Lakshmi’s teachings ask us to look beyond the surface of our material lives so we can tap into the feeling of fullness that emanates from within.”

Another great book for anyone who is a mum out there is Mothers Mind Cleanse by The Broad Place written by Jacqui Lewis. It’s a handbook of philosophy and tools to be a calmer, happier mother in our modern world.

Balance is essential”

- Kat’s Life Mantra

Have you created any new routines in the past few weeks? Do you have any top tips or pieces of advice you can share that may help people through these challenging times? We’ve been trying to stay in our own garden as much as possible so our usual routine of a morning swim in the sea has stopped (we’ve only swum twice in 3 weeks).

So, I’ve been making sure that every afternoon, when it’s not quite so hot, Olive and I go into the back garden for a picnic. We take some snacks, a blanket and maybe a ball or some toys and spend time watching the birds fly overhead, looking at the clouds, playing or just letting her stretch her legs in the fresh air.

It’s amazing how the time flies and then all of a sudden it’s dinner time! It’s also been a really nice opportunity to allow Olive to get bored and come up with her own games, watching her explore her toys and animals and books slowly instead of rushing from one item to another has been amazing to see.

Looking to the future, what are you hopeful for? More fresh air, and being ok with the balance of slowing down within the busy-ness of the world.

No matter what happens, life is beautiful, you are beautiful and we are all exactly where we are meant to be if we simply trust that it is

What do you think of the UNE PIECE brand and its vision to empower and build confidence in women? I love the UNE PIECE brand – and in particular that its focus is on remembering that life is beautiful, every woman, every person is beautiful. It’s the reminder that we all need in this time when we are feeling uncertain about our futures or ourselves. No matter what happens, life is beautiful, you are beautiful and we are all exactly where we are meant to be if we simply trust that it is.
